"We had to have a new unit installed earlier this season and received quotes from BranhamHVAC and Appleton Campbell (540-825-6332) , both out of Warrenton. I was not worried about the tax credit, which many of the companies are trying to push. My view is that we are the tax payers and in the end the money will be paid by us! Also found that the units available for tax credit (higher SEERS) would have required us to replace existing duct work...extra $$$ along with out-of-pocket costs still being more (http://www.energyst ar.gov/index. cfm?c=tax_ credits.tx_ index). Be careful not to allow a company to install a larger unit with the existing duct work or face having the unit burn up because of the resistance to air flow from duct work being too small.
The representatives from both companies were very friendly and knowledgeable, but cost drove our decision. The pricing from Appleton Campbell was about $2K less for the same exact Trane unit. BranhamHVAC mainly works in the commercial/business environment, but does handle residential. The Appleton Campbell installers (Tim & Arthur) were excellent and my 8 year old daughter cried when they left because I wouldn't let her go home with them!! We have been more than satisfied with the work and cool air we desperately needed."
