Emergency Alert! Deer in Distress

by John & Jean Hagarty
(17121 Tattershall Way)

To All Residents:

For the past two days we have encountered an unfortunate scene...a young deer with a plastic container---similar to a large party snack bottle---locked on its head. The animal cannot eat or drink.

We called the game warden but he can only respond if someone can give him a precise location of the deer. The animal appears to be moving in a large loop behind Tattershall Way and then south on Somerset Drive in the woods behind the homes on Somerset. Our second spotting today confirms he is losing strength and will likely bed down at some point to meet his fate.

We are advising the community of this incident in the hope another resident might spot the animal and call the game warden. His name is Steve and can be reached at 540.295.3075. Or, call the main warden dispatcher at 1.804.367.1258 who will contact the warden on duty.

It is only a matter of a few more days before the weather and lack of food and water will end the animal's life.

We all know that the over population of deer is a serious issue. Nonetheless, we hate to see a young animal suffer needlessly.
