New Clevenger’s Water and Sewer Utility System Tour
Thursday , October 14, 4:30 p.m

by Paul Howard
(Culpeper)

The County of Culpeper will celebrate the opening of the Clevenger’s Corner Water and Wastewater Treatment Facilities with a tour on Thursday , October 14 at 4:30 p.m.

The Board of Supervisors cordially invites members of the Culpeper Town Council, South Wales Residents, and the public to tour the Facilities.

The tour will start at the Wastewater Treatment Facility located at 19525 Clevengers Utility Road, Jeffersonton, VA 22724, followed by a brief tour of the water treatment plant.

Refreshments will be provided.

To reach the site, please travel on Route 229 North to Route 621 at Jeffersonton. If travelling north bound, turn right on Route 621, proceed east ¼ mile. Turn left on Clevengers Utility Road (this is a gravel road). The Wastewater Treatment Facility is at the end of the gravel road--approximately 3 miles.

The Wastewater Treatment Facility will replace the aging facility serving the South Wales Community.

The $13,000,000 facility was paid for by Centex homes, and constructed by the County of Culpeper.

The state of the art facility can treat up to 900,000 gallons per day of wastewater and is designed to minimize impact on the environment and the Chesapeake Bay. This new facility is designed for Enhanced Biological Nutrient Removal and will remove nitrogen and phosphorus to meet new discharge limits of 3.0 and 0.3 milligrams per liter, respectively.

The wastewater treatment facility will begin receiving and treating wastewater on December 1, 2010.

The Water Treatment plant will supplement the existing water system at South Wales and provide an additional 600,000 gallons per day of water treatment capacity and 750,000 gallons of elevated water storage for fire protection.

The $8,500,000 treatment plant, again paid for by Centex Homes and built by the County, will begin supplying water to South Wales on November 1, 2010.

Please join us on a tour of these new facilities.
